ZX1100E Wheel swap

Hi,

I was wondering if the ZX11 wheels would bolt on with minimal mods to my 1995 ZX1100E/GPz1100. I have some bent rims and like the look of the ZX11D rims.

Or is there another swap that would work as well?

Thanks in advance

Tim

SEARCH FIRST.

If you have questions.. start searching the forums first.
Use the advanced controls to search in the forums that pertain to your bike.
Search using keywords.

That way another thread, asking the same question, for the umpteenth time,
isn't asked again by someone capable of sourcing the information themselves.

You can literally type this query into google, click submit, and get an answer.

If you look at the top 5 threads right now,
you would see a thread about wheel and fitment. :squint

Cheers!

Ahem..

While they are different..

The Concourse and the GPZ are similar.. IIRC (?)
While many C10 owners are interested in taking advantage of the latest tire technology, the dwindling selection of high performance tires available in sizes to fit the C10’s 18” front wheel has made this increasingly difficult. Manufacturers heavily favor 17” front wheels on sport and sport touring motorcycles, evidenced by the fact that at the time of the writing of this article, only one new sport touring motorcycle was offered with an 18” front tire. The rest of the current sport and sport touring motorcycles are equipped with a 17” front tire. A cursory look at tire availability during the writing of this article indicated that there were nearly twice the amount of front tires offered in the 120/70-17 size alone than the total number of 18” tires that will work on the C10. These and other factors have led to a desire by some owners to convert to a 17” front wheel. Fortunately for 1994-2006 C10 owners there is a bolt-on option for converting to a 17” front wheel, using the wheel from another Kawasaki model.

Here’s what you’ll need for the conversion:

- Tools for removal/ replacement of the front wheel, including removal and replacement of the front brake rotors, and removal/ replacement of the front wheel bearings, if required.

- A front wheel from one of the following:

Kawasaki ZR750 C1-C3 (1990-1993)
Kawasaki ZR7/ ZR7S F2/ H1-H5 (2000-2005)
Kawasaki ZX6 D1-D4 (1990-1993)
Kawasaki GPZ1100/ZX1100E (1995-1997)

- Front axle spacers for your model wheel. Most used wheels still have the wheel bearings installed, and therefore will include the spacer between the wheel bearings, as will a new wheel. The right hand (brake lever side) spacer for the ZR7 F and H is Kawasaki part number 92152-1160, while the other models all have the same part number, which is 92143-1335.

- The speedometer gear drive from a Kawasaki ZX6D. The speedometer drives from the other donors will fit, but will introduce more speedometer error than the ZX6D speedo drive. The Kawasaki part number for the ZX6D drive gear is 41078-1070.

- New wheel bearings, if you plan on replacing them, Kawasaki part number 601B6203UU.

- Your choice of tire in the 120/70-17 size.

Here are the steps for the conversion:

- Remove and replace the bearings in the conversion wheel, if necessary

- Mount the new tire

- Remove the stock front wheel

- Remove the brake rotors from the stock front wheel

- Install the brake rotors on the conversion wheel

- Install the conversion wheel, using the stock front axle, the spacers and speedometer drive acquired for the conversion.

- Go for a ride!

Yes, it really is that easy, though you may find that you want a 17” rear wheel to go along with the front, if you haven’t already done so, but that’s for another article. Steering will be slightly quicker, due to the lighter wheel and reduced steering angle resulting from the smaller diameter tire.

wheel swap

Easy,ZZR11D REAR with ZZR1200 caliper hanger and caliper. The only modification is to the hanger. The slot for the swingarm lug needs to be 25mm longer and shave 3mm off the swingarm side(the face that touches the arm)Every thing else is standard GPZ11E.Pics of mine at Bikepics.com and on the gallery here.:crazyloco

Zing,
Good Info! You're a gentleman..
Would you mind adding any other pertinent wheel information
to the Wheel Swap thread?

I sure would greatly appreciate any carnal knowledge.

Cheers!

wheel swap

steell is correct in that any front wheel swap needs a full front end exchange.ZX11C and D have been done with the added benefit of upgrading to six pot calipers. Also the japanese favour upside down forks from ZX9R.Rears are probably limited to anything 5.5 inch wide(180/55 tyre),the output shaft for the front sprocket is shorter on the ZX11E causing chain and swingarm clearance issues if you try for a wider boot. Also trying to put a ZX11D or C swingarm is a pain in the ass to do and is 2 kgs heavier anyway.

Here's a photo of mine.3 mm removed from face at 'A' .The slot is increased in length by 25mm towards the spindle. This is for adjustment and aids wheel removal.
Thanks Zing & Steell .. I added the info to the wheel thread.

Zx11e wheel swap

When you say stock spacer do you mean the original brake caliper and bracket? If so it's because the rotor bolts strike the caliper bracket. The ZZR12 bracket was shaved to give clearance and everything clamps up square. Before it was a tight fit, close but no cigar so to speak.:sFun_crazypilot:

Just want to add to this thread in case someone pulls it up in the future. (Although Search Function sucks, like many forums)

I just put a ZZR1200 rear wheel on my GPZ1100E. I used a ZZR1200 wheel, disc, caliper and caliper hanger, along with a ZZR1200 rear hose to the master cylinder.

I had to have 3mm shaved off the swingarm side of the hanger, and had the locating slot extended 25mm like zing1100 stated above.

I used the stock GPZ1100E drive side axle spacer, but couldn't find a cheap caliper side axle spacer from a ZZR1200, so I just had 5mm taken off the small end of the GPZ caliper side spacer.

At that point, everything slipped together easily, and I have a sexier 3 spoke 5.5" rear wheel !

Now to find an appropriate front wheel with 3 round spokes. ;)

Now I'm off, back to the Ducati board where we have bigger problems most of the time....:ROFLMAO::LOL:
