Hey guys, new here but have been lurking around a little while. I picked up a 94 ZX7 last fall and spent the remainder of last year riding it. Would like to get some upgrades going on it, but stay in a budget doing it, and keep it rideable thru the summer...where would you start on a straight stock ZX7?

Just looking for some ideas...thanks guys!

What's been done to it so far?

The only thing I know of is the exhaust...and that was done before I got it. Would like to do something with the low RPM power shortage that it has. There is plenty of power there, but takes it a minute to "wind up" I guess. I am used to when I open it up...away we go...to get that on this one, I drop one gear and feed her the fuel and she will run like a raped ape. But to just get up on it and open it up...it takes her a minute...lol

I don't think that bike is as nice you guys think it is... just saying.

Besides any "upgrades" could be returned back to stock if one really wanted to. Then again, right now is as much as that bike is ever going to be worth. It isn't like it's a classic musclecar or Duesenburg or something that's going to fetch 100K+ at a Barrett-Jackson auction.

Sheesh...

Swap out the suspension, throw in a 9R, 10R or Gixxer engine. Change the tail... the sky's the limit.

Just don't wrap it around a street light or some crap.

IDK it even has the original reflectors on the main fairings. You almost never see that as that is first thing people remove.

If he were to do an engine and front end swap wouldn't it be easier to just buy a newer bike?

There are a ton of molested beat up 7s out there. Taking an all original bike and hacking it is not my cup of tea.

stock is great but it may not feel like its what u want. if ur going to keep it then make it uniquely urs.
insurance companies looking for stolen bikes that look the "same" as stock isnt as easy as custom which is a plus cause ive seen forums on here saying their bike was sadly taken and not much to differ from some stock bikes ex. besides a scratch on the exhaust. if u had to indentify ur bike in a "line up" could u? what about on the operating table cause u may be able to at least see one piece and catch the guy.
if i were u id change the grips, pegs, signals, and maybe a filter or 2 and dont forget to tune the suspension to u specifically including those dials up front, rear shock and height as well. oh and headlights are cheap and a great upgrade. got mine thru ebay for around $9 shipped.

either way do what bullitt says and dont wrap it around nothing and enjoy the ride.

Thanks for the input guys, more thought on the subject and going to keep this bike pretty close to stock. Do have a few changes I'm going to do, but overall it's going to stay as is. The more I look the more I DON'T see many left around that are straight stock and honestly, I like it like it is...since everyone else is up to the task of customizing their bikes...maybe mine will stand out NOT customized...lol

Thanks again guys...

By the way...I did ditch the reflectors on the fairing since those pics were taken...lol, like he said it was one of the first things that went.
